What We Do

The School Psychology Training Clinic (SPTC) is a student training facility in the Department of Educational Psychology within the School of Education. It provides a variety of services to children and families in the community. We are both a diagnostic and treatment clinic, providing assessment and intervention for a range of socio-emotional, behavioral, and academic difficulties. Doctoral and Educational Specialist students in the School Psychology Program at UW-Madison provide these services as part of their training in the program and are supervised closely by faculty in the School Psychology Program. The primary mission of the SPTC is to train students in the delivery of educational and psychological services to children experiencing learning, behavioral, or emotional difficulties. The SPTC uses innovative and effective professional practices to promote graduate training in the School Psychology Program and provides a service to the University, Madison, and other communities throughout Wisconsin communities.

Services available to children and their families include evaluations of intellectual and academic skills; assessment of learning difficulties; assessment of social-emotional status and behavioral concerns; parent consultation, counseling and education; and individual and group academic and psychosocial interventions. Assessment and intervention programs may be conducted in a range of settings including the SPTC, school, community, and home settings.

Faculty, staff, and students in the SPTC adhere to the ethical standards of the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists. All information provided by and about clients is considered confidential. Services are provided on a sliding fee schedule. Contact the SPTC at (608) 262-3848 for information and for referral materials.
